XVIII International Symposium on Cryptogramic Botany

Cryptogamic Botany is a fantastic binomial because of the heterogeneity of taxonomic groups that it includes: it encompasses all phyla (other than animal ones), a huge diversity of habitats (all environments potentially colonised by living beings), phycology (which includes the study of cyanoprokaryota or cyanobacteria), bryology, pteridology, mycology (which includes the study of amoeboid fungi and phycomycetes) and lichenology (which, although part of mycology, is seen as a separate science).

Despite being a relatively small group of scientists, it is an honour to carry out this biological-diversity study. Our strength, in the eyes of government administrations and scientific commissions, stems from our union within the framework of Cryptogamic Botany. In order to preserve this union, it is important to continue organising the Symposiums. Our scientific societies must also take responsibility for this.

In the spirit of this union, we plan to organise the next Symposium with great enthusiasm in order to preserve the social recognition of Cryptogamic Botany. Our goal is to share a few days that will help us to grow intellectually and personally, to benefit from sharing experiences and to shed light on new projects for the future.
